Representative Hudson and the debate team
Third, fourth, and fifth grade students at Somerset Academy Elementary Charter School in Pembroke Pines participated in a mock town hall-style debate on Wednesday, October 29, 2008.
Throughout lunch, students representing the Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates responded to questions asked by a faculty moderator, fellow students, and special guest State Representative Matt Hudson.
The debate participants discussed their view on various issues including the economy, war in Iraq, education, environment, and health care. The debate was created to teach students about the election process and raise awareness about current issues and how each candidate or party addresses them.
Representative Hudson has consistently visited schools on all grade levels around his district to promote a better understanding of civics in our schools.

Representative Hudson was riding on an air boat Saturday down U.S. 41 in the 2008 Swamp Buggy Parade. Spectators cheered as Representative Hudson as well as 100 community organizations, businesses, floats, high school marching bands and ROTC groups, fire trucks, the Swamp Buggy queen and, of course, plenty of swamp buggies, traveled along the streets of Naples. Also taking part in the parade was Roberta McCain, mother of presidential candidate John McCain.
Many people shouted words of encouragement to the Representative and wished him the best of luck in the upcoming election. Representative Hudson noted how important it was to be actively engaged with his district and community so that he can better represent the people of his district up in Tallahassee.

Representative Hudson attended a candidate forum this weekend in which he had the opportunity to speak to, as well as answer questions, from many of his constituents. Many people came over to the Representative to thank him for his strong support of the pro-life movement and to congratulate him on the accomplishments he achieved for district 101 and Florida last session. After the Service was held, the congregation formally introduced Representative Hudson to everyone in attendance. While many had comments and questions for the Representative, he was more then happy to listen, and answer each and everyone of them. Representative Hudson noted that the most effective way he could represent his district was to listen to his constituents and stay actively engaged with his community.
