A Message From Matt Hudson

State Representative Matt HudsonDear Friends,

I want to thank you for allowing me to represent you in Tallahassee. I am honored to serve you as your Representative in the 101st District of the Florida House. The future for our District, our State, and Nation are filled with opportunities. I look forward to working with you to build on our strengths and work through our weaknesses to take advantage of those opportunities. District 101 is perhaps the most unique and all encompassing area of our State. I look forward to seeing you as I travel the district every day. I encourage you to get engaged and follow me on Facebook. I believe communication is a key component to our form of Government. Social networking is yet another tool in the communication toolbox. I firmly believe you cannot represent people unless you meet and listen to people every day.

The opportunity to serve you is very humbling and it would be an honor to continue to do so. Please feel free to contact me anytime. I am here for you.

Best Regards,

Matt Hudson

State Representative District 101

The Citizens speak out at Town Hall meeting!

July 2nd, 2009 · No Comments

The Colier County Legislative Delegation held a post session wrap up town hall meeting at Edison College on July 1st. The meeting was well attended and provided citizens an opportunity to hear from their Legislators, and to engage them with their concerns. The discussion was lively and at times very direct. “Our form of government was on display and in perfect working order” stated Rep. Hudson. “Government of , by , and for the people makes us the greatest country in the world” remarked Hudson.

Do higher taxes = Better health?

June 29th, 2009 · No Comments

July 1st the tax on a pack of cigarettes goes up one dollar in the state of Florida. Proponents of the measure will say that people who smoke will chose to quit and at the same time the added tax will create additional revenue.  The math seems very fuzzy and the outcomes unlikely. Rep. Hudson stands for less taxes and less government and voted against the measure this spring in Tallahassee.  Please go to www.tobaccofreeflorida.com for ideas and tools to quit smoking.

June 26th, 2009 · No Comments

The Florida Association of Counties recognized Representative Matt Hudson with the County Champion award Friday June 26, 2009. The award was presented at the annual meeting of the association in Collier County. House Bill 701sponsored, and passed by Rep Hudson in the 2009 Legislative session was a total revamp of the Truth in Millage Notice (TRIM). This notice provides property owners with information relating to their tax bill and various assessments. Making the notice more informative and consumer friendly was a priority for Rep Hudson and the Association…

Rep Hudson attends Ave Maria Event

June 18th, 2009 · No Comments

Well it’s finally here the catalyst for growth in this wonderful new community. Publix opened to the cheers of many residents. While obviously bringing much needed convenience this store should serve as a “focal point of the community and become a catalyst for continued growth” stated Hudson. The store will also be very convenient for Rep Hudson on his way back from Immokalee and the East coast.

Social Networking a topic of Discussion

June 14th, 2009 · 1 Comment

Social networking used to be having coffee with someone. Now it’s a whole new ballgame as the internet and smartphones have transformed how we converse. Recently Retro social networking came face to face with today’s social networking ironically in a coffee shop. Jeff Lytle of the Naples News attended and had some interesting insights on the topic and Representative Hudson. Check it out at

House Bill 701 by Hudson signed into law!

June 12th, 2009 · No Comments

Yesterday in Tallahassee Governor Charlie Crist signed House Bill 701 sponsored by Representative Matt Hudson into law. This new law brings about dramatic changes to property owners notice of assessments and taxes otherwise known as the TRIM notice or Truth in Millage notice. This form has long been very confusing and impractical for property owners. The new form will provide property owners with relevant useful information that will allow them to better understand their property taxes. This new law is yet another example of Representative Hudson’s desire to put common sense in State Government.
